Protecting Our Students: Safeguarding Policies – Summary of our safeguarding   procedures

The safeguarding policies and procedures at Minerva May School align with the statutory guidance provided in Keeping Children Safe in Education. All staff members undergo robust annual Safeguarding training. Regular reminders are issued to staff regarding safeguarding protocols. In addition, all staff are required to read the relevant sections of Keeping Children Safe in Education and sign a declaration confirming their understanding.

Here is a summary of the safeguarding procedures followed when a concern is raised:

  1. Initial Concern: When a concern about a student arises, it is logged through the school's electronic system (CPOMS). If the student is at immediate risk, the concern is immediately reported in person to the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) or Deputy DSL.

  2. Gathering Information: The next step involves gathering relevant information, which may include speaking to students, obtaining statements, reviewing student records, and communicating with involved parties, including parents/carers.

  3. Taking Action: The safeguarding file is updated, and the parents or carers are informed. The DSL or Deputy DSL may seek advice from external agencies, such as the Children and Families Hub, and make referrals if deemed necessary.

Please do not hesitate to contact the school if you have any questions about our safeguarding procedures.

Visitors to our School Site:

All visitors are required to check in at the main reception area. The school follows a coloured lanyard system as outlined below:

  • Purple Lanyard: This is worn by all staff members at Minerva May School.

  • Green Lanyard: This signifies that the wearer has undergone a DBS check. These visitors are permitted to be on the premises without supervision.

  • Red Lanyard: This indicates that the visitor has not completed a DBS check. They must not be left unattended.

Any adults present on site without a lanyard will be challenged by staff for clarification.
