Exams and Achievement Opportunities

We endeavour to provide a variety of examinations throughout students' time at school, with our high standards motivating them to excel.

GCSEs: At Minerva May School, where students can access the GCSE level, they are provided with the opportunities to undertake GCSE-level exams in Maths, English, Science (Biology), Humanities (Citizenship), PE and Art.

Alternatives to GCSEs: Additionally, Functional Skills at Entry Levels 1, 2, 3, and Levels 1 and 2 are available as alternatives to GCSE Maths and English.

Our Employability and Life Skills (ELS) programme is fully accredited by Open Awards, and it is approved by Ofqual. As part of this qualification, we mix training with hands-on experience to help our students learn important skills that could boost their chances of getting a job. We cover lots of different topics, from units like making a drink, healthy eating, searching for a job, to more complicated ones like managing money and getting along with others.

Vocational Studies: In line with our Framework for Nurturing Independence, we offer a number of qualifications through our Vocational provision. Its units cover a range of skills and topics tailored to the aspirations and personal interests of our students, such as Hair and Beauty, Electronic Music Production, Animal Care, Motor Vehicle Maintenance, Painting and Decorating and many more. Upon completion of their Vocational units, students will gain an Ofqual approved (and Open Award accredited) qualification, recognised nationally by colleges and employers.
