British Values Statement
Minerva May School is dedicated to serving its local community. We firmly believe that at the core of any modern and evolving community lies the recognition and promotion of fundamental British values, which we are committed to instilling. By doing so, our students will flourish as individuals and responsible citizens within both their local community and the wider nation.
We assert that this goal is not solely achieved through the formal curriculum, but also through the school's underlying principles and atmosphere, and its provision for students outside regular lessons. Our foundational principles not only shape the school's priorities for improvement but also play a pivotal role in fostering British values within our environment.
Across all year groups, we prioritise the significance of mutual respect. Therefore, in every subject, students are encouraged to honor differing perspectives, regardless of their own viewpoints.
At Minerva May School, these values are explicitly integrated into the PSHE and Humanities (Citizenship) curricular. Furthermore, they are woven throughout our broader curriculum offer, particularly through our focus on SMSC (Social, Moral, Spiritual, and Cultural Development).
Beyond the formal curriculum, students engage in numerous extra-curricular activities that reinforce the promotion of British values. Student Voice initiatives empower students to actively contribute to the school's community. These opportunities include serving as form representatives, members of our student council, and Anti-Bullying Ambassadors, among others. Additionally, various subjects appoint their own leaders, such as Sports Leaders in Physical Education and Maths leader in Mathematics.
Our school also hosts a range of school-wide enrichment programmes, outdoor learning and community-based learning opportunities, providing students with the chance to cultivate individual skills and engage in community service. Through diverse clubs (like Art, Music and sports), students learn and embody British values. Success in school-sports hinges on understanding and adhering to the rules while respecting each other's abilities and contributions.
Our annual ‘form reps election’ process is yet another avenue through which our school nurtures British values. Witnessing this process fosters in students an appreciation for democracy and mutual respect.
Minerva May School is committed to continual progress. We will persist in our efforts to equip our children and young people with the strongest moral foundation possible, enabling them to lead successful lives and contribute positively to society.
